Ivanhoe

Chapter 16 was hilarious; in it, the Black Knight (whom we suspect to be King Richard) meets the friar/outlaw.  Just one of the great lines from their first conversations....
'Sir Sluggish Knight, I drink to thee,' said the hermit; 'respecting thy valour much, but deeming wondrous slightly of thy discretion. If thou wilt take equal arms with me, I will give thee, in all friendship and brotherly love, such sufficing penance and complete absolution, that thou shalt not, for the next twelve months, sin the sin of excess of curiosity.'

Favorite quotes in the current chapter, one more sober and one just eye-catching....

'Nay,' said Rebecca, 'thy weakness and thy grief, Sir Knight, make thee miscalculate the purposes of Heaven.'

Isaac looked a little blank at this annunciation.
