17 degrees and rising

Our small Wisconsin town hit a close-to-record-for-this-date low of 17 last night, which made for the beginning of stillness on the river running through it. This is where my feet are today, with the sun slanting in.

Yesterday was full and good, with four sons - plus their friends, a brother, sister, married-into family, and parents all shoveling dirt and saying goodbye to a human, flawed and wonderful, who leaves a hole. Laughter and tears, hugs and good words, cold faces, bodies and spirits warmed by the gratefulness of connections.
