Fete de la musique
Thursday, June 21st, was the national music fest. Anyone who wants to can set up on a sidewalk, in a park, along a river, and play music in public! This happens in every town in the country, with every kind of music from gospel (the French seem to love American gospel music) to jazz to classical to rap to...not sure what to call this one. They set up over at St Maurice and were the only group out in our neighborhood. The Fest had been officially cancelled due to rain and high wind possibilities (which didn't really materialize), but apparently they were just ready to play.
A flute, a string - violin? and maybe a small drum.
On the other end of the scale, friends of ours in Paris were involved in making this happen: go check out http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=193177547476220
