on the corner of Superior and 13th
The discovery of individuals making a difference where they are, becoming the unseen origin of change, brings me hope.
Watching out for neighbors and neighborhoods, creating good in families, following steps to broader influence in towns, states, nations. Feeding the stray cats on the corner. Bringing people together in a desert theatre. Reading to a child. Passing legislation that increases opportunity for well being. Nudging a shift in a leader's perspective, growing students who see their worth and strengths. Lovingly washing the feet of five hospice patients in a day. Orchestrating economic order from chaos. Baking bread.
Johnston's Bakery, in Sheboygan, WI, has its 72-year history on its walls and community building in its eclairs. They dispense unity, laughter ("Prepare to meet your baker"!), and warmth with their sugar. And yes, they have Sheboygan hard rolls.
Hope floats into the neighborhood on the scent of yeast and cinnamon each morning.
