Saturday Kind of Day
Slept in a bit, went for a short walk with Daughter#2, ate more Niedlov's cinnamon raisin bread...then corralled the kids and talked them into an adventure. They didn't know where they were going.
One of the three libraries in town was our first stop, the one with the largest movie collection. We were looking for a family-friendly movie, as opposed to S#2's favorites like X-Men. Last week we had a success with Sister Act II...this week we're all in the mood for Waking Ned Devine.
We continued south and east to the Prairie Creek Reservoir, which apparently is not as used by the natives as we imagined! It is much cooler than it has been, but it was still 70 or so, and the water was warm except down by our toes.
There are loads of boats out there - only three or four away from the moorings today. The three lifeguards woke up when we arrived and were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the diving raft was not available, because "the wind's been pushing the water out of the swimming area." Huh? It's too shallow right now.
The sea gulls were glad to have their perch back after we left....
We (mostly the kids) splashed around for a while, then headed farther east to Farmland and its most famous stop, The Chocolate Moose.
It's on the main intersection in Farmland, the building across the street (now holding a Pizza King) originally the Opera House, built over 100 years ago. We sat in the sun, drying off and warming up.
Good American burgers and sandwiches (patty melt, reuben, etc., all well done!) and great ice cream. Key lime pie ice cream, carrot cake ice cream, plain ol' vanilla, and malts, shakes, phosphates, ice cream sodas. The kids now know what a phosphate is - and are sufficiently appreciative. My Green River ended up my son's, who gave his root beer to the other son, who gave me his cherry phosphate. We were all happy. Not sure we want to eat another thing today, but happy.
On to Ned Devine!
