Stars and Stripes, but no fireflies

I have really missed the fireflies this summer. Although - I assume they haven't been around because of the drought, which is the same reason the mosquitoes have been practically non-existent.

We spent an evening at Minnetrista last week, where I thought we might have a chance of seeing a few of those lightening bugs, but nope. (And no mosquitoes!)

It was the Symphony's final summer concert, free, on the lawn! They played patriotic and show tunes, including a rousing performance of Stars and Stripes Forever. My kids recognized the "be kind to your web-footed friends" section, but not the rest.

We were the first ones to arrive on the lawn! A crowd of Minnetrista members had already assembled for a special cookout...they had chairs at tables for the concert, but we thought ourselves much better off on our sleeping bag and camp chairs, with our BLTs and IBCs, grapes and sugar-snap peas. I think the poor members just had hot dogs and hamburgers to choose from.

One of the best parts of being in the crowd is always listening to the conversations. I love hearing the community talk to each other..."missed seeing you in church Sunday!" seems to be a popular opener.

My favorite was Pirates of the Caribbean - always.

Three fireflies appeared on our street last night! They seemed to be the only ones in the whole neighborhood, right in front of our balcony.
